Irresistible? I think not.

Dear Liv:
Your mommy is not a night person. I like to sleep--a lot. I do not handle being roused from my sleep in the middle of the night very well, especially when it requires more than a quick bottle or diaper change. Two a.m. is not the time to play, talk, laugh, or otherwise engage in any activity that does not involve closed eyes. Also, I am learning to resist that smushed-face grin of yours that usually melts my heart. At 3:00 a.m., I can take it or leave it. At 4:00 a.m., after rocking you for more than an hour, it does not help your cause when I look down and see your eyes wide open and a smile from ear to ear. Well okay, maybe the smile helps a little. You tease me with nights of 10, 11, even 12 hours of sleep. You give me a little taste, then you take it away. Why must you torture me so?

I am sorry that mommy must go to work everyday. I am sorry that I do not get to spend enough time with you. However, any time between midnight and 6 a.m. is not the time to make up for it. Your mommy is a much nicer person when she gets 8 hours of sleep.

Also, pinching the delicate skin on the inside of my arm is not cute or funny. It makes me mad. A mad mommy at 3:00 a.m. is not good.

Love,
Your mommy, who needs to TiVo more shows to watch in the wee hours of the night.
